Melodies of an oud
The space between
In between, the times in between
With every passing day my heart sings your name
The melodious rhythm with which it does
can only be likened to the heavenly tunes
that emanate from an oud—
An oud played by a drunken lover,
drunk on one emotion alone
Perhaps the only drunken state permitted in our Deen—
The drunken state of love.
I sit there watching the stars,
hoping you’re out there somewhere, doing the same
Hoping it is my face you picture
when your favorite lovesongs play on the radio
Can one truly imagine a face they haven’t really met?
I was asked by the magician of words himself Malik to hop on an amazing 100 words writing exercise with him and esteemed writers نائلة and jeri lee | جيري on the topic ‘the space in between’. Do check out theirs!
